Graduated Hawk defenseman Luke Chase has committed to Arizona State University’s D1 ACHA club team for next season.

The St. Louis, Miss. product will join his older brother Ben with the Sun Devils program following his short, but memorable career in a Nipawin jersey. Acquired from the Canmore Eagles early in the season last year, after suffering a shoulder injury in his first game as a Hawk the towering rearguard returned and quickly became a steadying presence on the Nipawin blueline and a fan favourite. Hawks Head Coach Tad Kozun said Chase was a pleasure to coach and he’s happy to see the 20-year-old commit to a school.

“We needed help on the blueline, I brought Luke in from the Alberta Junior Hockey League and he was everything our organization could ask for,” Kozun said. “A stalwart in our zone, plus able to throw them, but also one of the kindest and caring kids you will meet, I am so happy for Luke and I hope he really enjoys his time in Arizona, and playing with Ben.”

Chase suited up in 48 games for the Hawks scoring three goals and adding 13 assists, plus he compiled 141 penalty minutes.
