Humboldt Broncos’ captain Cage Newans has committed to Vancouver Island University of the British Columbia Intercollegiate Hockey League for the 2024-2025 campaign.

Newans, 20, posted 190 regular and post-season points in 189 games for the Broncos between 2021 and 2024, and represented the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League twice at the annual SJHL/MJHL Showcase.

A forward out of Qualicum Beach, BC, Cage will be playing very close to home as he is a Vancouver Islander himself.

A skilled, big-shot forward, Newans also played in 25 Western Hockey League games for the Victoria Royals, and spent time in the British Columbia Hockey League with Nanaimo and Cowichan Valley.

He also represented his home province the 2019 Canada Winter Games in Red Deer, AB.

Newans becomes the fifth SJHLer to commit the VIU so far this off-season.
