1-ESTEVAN BRUINS (2-0)
They scored a ton, maybe gave up more than they’d like; but that’s likely due to Jake Anthony’s lack of a training camp. Potential scoring champ (McChesney), potential league top dman (Witzke), and potential league top goalie (Anthony) on the roster.
2-NIPAWIN HAWKS (2-0)
Hawks lost a lot of manpower from last year’s roster, but Declan Hobbs is back and he is capable of carrying the club until the rest of the team finds some chemistry. The Flaman acquisition has paid early dividends.
3-FLIN FLON BOMBERS (2-0)
The Triple H trio of Hein, Hooper, and Houle terrorized the Ice Wolves for two games. Boots, who’s a league top dman contender, fired off six helpers. Plenty of weapons.
4-KINDERSLEY KLIPPERS (2-0)
A stud goalie can change the complexion of an entire team. Justen Close gave up only three goals to the North Stars and Kindersley wins twice with minimal offense. A great confidence boost for a young team led by a rookie head coach.
5-WEYBURN RED WINGS (1-0)
The Terriers badly outshot them, but they have their own potent trio in the form of Hiltz, Kazymyra, and Kowalski and they answered the call late to seal the deal in the home opener.
6-MELFORT MUSTANGS (1-1)
Zach Anderson scored four on Saturday, Justin Ball had three on Saturday. Nobody scored on Sunday.
7-NOTRE DAME HOUNDS (1-1)
New head coach and an unrecognizable roster has them under the radar, but get used to hearing these names: Nolan Renwick, Jakob Breault, Charles Martin, Kyle Robinson. Noah Bankowski looks to have turned a corner and stud defenseman Tim Gould is back. They’ll be a force.
8-MELVILLE MILLIONAIRES (0-1-0-1)
They were, surprisingly, physical on Friday night and then the Heino brothers got into a pair of fights on Saturday. They may need another scorer or two and you have to figure the goals against will be better than what it was this weekend.
9-YORKTON TERRIERS (0-1)
As expected, they lit the lamp often on Friday night in Weyburn. As expected, they gave up just as many as they scored and then some.
10-LA RONGE ICE WOLVES (0-2)
Zambon and Bannister showed well against the Bombers and Kolby Johnson contributed four assists, but the offensive juggernaut that is Flin Flon was too much to overcome.
11-BATTLEFORDS NORTH STARS (0-2)
Do they lack offense or is Justen Close going to make teams look punchless on a regular basis? The answer is, probalby, a bit of both.
12-HUMBOLDT BRONCOS (0-2)
There was no possible way to be prepared for this week so the fact the Broncos didn’t win shouldn’t be a surprise. Don’t look for the winless skid to continue. There is a lot of talent here.
